10 QUALITIES OF THE SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE THAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

10 QUALITIES OF THE SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE THAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

1. SELF DISCIPLINE Self-discipline is the number one trait which leads to a healthy and happy lifestyle. Self Discipline is a habit, a practice, philosophy and a way of living. All successful men and women are highly disciplined and able to control their behaviour because of their self-discipline.  According to a study conducted by Wilhelm Hoffman, it was discovered that the self-disciplined subjects were more capable of dealing with goal conflicts. The self-disciplined people spent less time debating whether to indulge in behaviours detrimental to their health and were able to make positive decisions more easily. The self-disciplined does not allow their choices to be dictated by impulses or feelings. Instead, they make informed, rational decisions on a daily basis without feeling overly stressed or upset. Charles Duhigg, the author of The Power of Habit, explains that when behaviour becomes a habit, individuals stop using their decision-making skills and instead function on auto-pilot. Therefore, breaking a bad habit and building a new habit requires an individual to make active decisions that will be rewarding in the future. one can become self-disciplined by knowing your temptations, removing temptations and by setting clear goals. Self-discipline is one of the most important and useful skills everyone should possess. This skill is essential in every area of life, and though most people acknowledge its importance, very few do something to strengthen it.

2. AVOID NEGATIVITY AND NEVER COMPLAIN - The successful men are responsible for their own work. Rather than blaming others for the wrongs, they try to rectify the mistakes and aim to improve in life in every task they do which makes them better than before and takes them a step closer to success. if you constantly whine about everything but never do anything about it, then it is the biggest mistake of your life. It's been said that one bad apple can spoil the whole bunch and often, that applies to the business environment. Successful people also make sure that they avoid sitting down with complainers. Complainers are people who are always complaining about how bad their life or job is. Complaining about anything fills life with negativity and never lets you progress in life. Their bad attitudes, catastrophic thinking, and fatalistic outlooks can infiltrate the ranks and spread like an epidemic. Sometimes, we unknowingly give toxic individuals influence over our thoughts, behaviours, and feelings. You can avoid negative people and complain in life by having a positive attitude towards life. One should guard their time by investing in activities which helps you progress in life.

3. DREAM BIG AND SET HIGHER GOALS - No one can achieve great things without setting higher goals. It is crucial to set a goal in life which acts as a motivator. Jeff Bezos at the age of 5 wanted to become an astronaut and today he owns a space exploration company called Blue Origin. All the successful people have a clear vision of their goal before they go on to implementing them. Most of the people are scared to dream big because of the fear of failing in life but it is said that if your goals don't scare you, they are too small. However, if you dream big and set higher goals, you move in the right direction which helps you to achieve success. Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam once said that dream is not that which you see while sleeping, it is something that does not let you sleep. Your actions are based on your goals and what you dream and think about on daily basis. No dream is big, there is a right and wrong time for a dream to hatch. Successful people have a huge vision for their life and work rather than bothering themselves with odds or chances of success. When you start dreaming big, you will want to grab all the possible opportunities rather than crying over a failure or a criticism. The most important quality that people who dream big have in them is that they surround themselves with the wonderful supporters who have self-esteem and self-confidence. If you dream big, then you can achieve big.

4. FOCUSED - The successful people know the importance of concentration. They believe in concentrating and focusing on a thing at a time rather than multi-tasking. Stay focused on your goals and keep doing what you aim to do even if others won't ever do it. In the “Common Denominator of Success,” Albert E.N. Grey stated that a willingness to do what unsuccessful people are not willing to do was the key to success. Most of the successful entrepreneurs are not afraid to fail. One can stay focused by doing work in chunks and taking regular breaks. if one has a set goal, then an individual can stay focused by drawing a task map and a to-do list. Then, the most important factor that needs to be paid attention to is developing a prioritization matrix. If one prioritize their goals and acknowledge the things then it is easy to neglect and avoid the things that could distract you.  If you stay focused and consistent on your goals and aims, then you can achieve everything you desire in life.

5.  MASTERS OF TIME - All the successful people value time. Everything they do is according the perfect time. They believe in investing their time doing valuable tasks such as reading or other activities which relax them to work better. To manage your time effectively, you need to manage yourself. Everyone has 24 hours in a day. But the people who are able to get most out of every minute of the day don't have the power to slow down time but they know how to properly manage their time. The easiest way to keep a track of your time is to create a time audit and by setting a time limit for each task. Sometimes the time is wasted when you think what to do when it is the time to actually do things. One of the worst things that you could do is wake-up without a plan for the day. You should make sure that you plan ahead of the day so that you don't waste much time planning. The most important thing to do to save time is to learn the art of delegating as it lessens the workload. Get organized and single task which we have discussed in the fourth point. If you single task, you can focus on one thing and concentrate on your work and get it done quickly. The more disciplined you become managing your time, the more of your professional goals you will accomplish.

6. GREAT LEARNERS - Successful people are great learners and them emphasis on reading and learning. Bill Gates reads 50 books per year which means he reads one book every week with two week holidays for himself. Warren Buffett reads 500 pages per week. Furthermore, Jeff Bezos admits that 12 books he read changed his life for good. Learn to invest in books and reading. Get knowledge from everywhere you can. Great learners become great achievers. One can become a great learner also by listening to others, The more you listen the more you learn. People who believe themselves to know everything and have all the knowledge usually lacks knowledge. One can also become a great learner by partaking in group discussions and engaging with positive. Most of the times, people fail to learn because of their unwillingness to step outside their comfort zone. When you step outside your comfort zone, you get to learn a lot more than you learn while staying in the comfort zone. People who are eager to listen to others and learn from everything that life offers them are good learners and succeed in their lives.

7. USE THEIR AGGRESSIVENESS IN A POSITIVE WAY - One of the strongest driving factors is an emotion. It depends on an individual how to deal with an emotion. One can take use their emotion to benefit themselves even if it is aggression. Aggression is an emotion which all the human beings have and show in their behaviour and activities. Aggression to get something in life fires the passion in a being. It is not a bad thing, it is a fuel which helps you to work stronger and harder for your goals. Your anger must come out at the right time and the best time to show your anger is by working hard for your goals. Alan Alda once said 'I am an angry person, angrier than most people would imagine. I get flashes of anger. What works for me is working out when. it's useful to use that anger.' The anger must be channeled into a higher pursuit. The best thing one could do is use their anger as energy for success as the best remedy for anger is a success. It is time to turn that anger into worthwhile pursuits. Being angry and doing nothing about it or having nothing to show for it is just a waste. Being angry and letting that fuel you, well, that's how you can create something special. Make anger your fuel and motivation to do the things you want to achieve. Channel your anger into something worthwhile, positive and creative.

8. SELF CONTROL - According to the greatest NCAA basketball Coach John R. Wooden's pyramid of success, 'self-control, regardless of what we are doing, whether it involves a physical act or a mental decision, must be maintained to produce desirable results. The quote "At No time is self-control more difficult than in times of success". When you are struggling to achieve success, you face challenges, failures, and criticism. This is the time when self-control matters the most. Once you are able to have a control on the hurdles and weaknesses in life, you become stronger which helps you to increase a list of your strengths and brings success.  One could improve self-control by measuring progress and managing stress. People with higher self-control are happier than those without. You could build long-term self-control by making a list of habits that you want to control and then analyze the progress. It is believed that one cannot achieve anything if they are not motivated. Inner motivation is must to build self-control.

9. WILLINGNESS TO TAKE RISK -  Mark Frost once said, 'Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body.' Great and unforeseen opportunities often come from risk-taking which helps an individual to stand out. Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon and the first richest man on the Earth gives us a lot to learn from him. He is an inspiration for the young entrepreneurs. He took a risk of leaving his job as a vice president at D.E. Shaw & Co. when his boss reminded him that he was going to get a bonus. However, he still left the vice president position and decided to sell books online when he knew that the internet's future is uncertain and he went on to take that risk. At the time he started his business he knew that there are 70% chances that the business would fail. However, he still took that risk and many other risks to expand and flourish his business. So, as a result of the risk which Jeff Bezos took when he started his online business of books, today Amazon is believed to become the second trillion dollar company after Apple. Most of the times, we exaggerate the consequences of what might happen if it does go wrong and end up doing nothing in life because of the fear of risk. Therefore, it is worth taking a risk as the odds are better than you think. If you try to play safe all the time, then you will live a life of a mediocre. But if you want to become successful, you need to take and accept risks in life.

10. ACCEPTING FAILURES - Most of the people are scared to face failures in life and if people fail in something, they quit. However, it is not the case. The founder of Kentucky Fried chicken's recipe was rejected 1000 times before it was selected by a restaurant. He accepted his failures and never stopped trying. Bill Gates, the co-founder of Microsoft's first company Traf-O-Data failed. He could have considered the failure of the company as his luck and stopped there. However, he tried again after facing a failure and then founded a successful company named Microsoft with Paul Allen. When you don't want to acknowledge failure, then you are unable to learn or try again which becomes a hurdle in the way of success. Almost all the entrepreneurs who achieved success have faced failure in their lives but they did not let a failure in life stop them from succeeding. Fear of failure is worse than failure itself because it condemns you to a life of unrealized potential. Winston Churchill once stated that "Success is stumbling from failure to failure with no loss of enthusiasm. History is the evidence that true innovators and the people in the past believed failure as a stepping stone to success. For instance, it took Thomas Edison 1000 tries to develop a light bulb. What matters in life is your attitude towards the failure, not the failure itself. If you accept the failure in life and work on it, then you will move a step closer to success.
